Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: It does its job! Comment: This is my first netbook. So far, it's been great. I've taken it just about everywhere with me. Keep in mind, it's a netbook, don't expect it to replace your desktop or notebook. I have to say, this thing gets it job done and does it well, namely, web-browsing and light "off hours" work. Don't expect to be doing intensive processing. The 1005PE had one main feature the made me say "YES, you're the one!" The battery life - estimated at 14 hours under efficient settings and well over 9 hours for my preferred settings. For the most part everything else was very similar to the Toshiba NB305. The 1005PE has a few things that need some getting used to, the keyboard has an unusual level of flex which makes it feel a little flimsy. Also, due to the shape of the netbook, it tend to be back heavy so it's not very balanced when I type on it while sitting on the couch. The whole thing tends to rock back and forth. Overall, it's a good system, it's practical and has awesome battery life. I feel comfortable leaving my charger at home for once! Customer Rating: Summary: ASUS Seashell just right... Comment: I purchased the ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE-PU17-BK for my Wife. She wanted a light weight small unit that she could do email and Facebook on basically. I'm the computer geek, so I was looking for a nice viewing screen, good feel on the keyboard, good price and features, but most of all GREAT battery life. This unit had just hit the streets with a new processor that claimed up to 14 hours of battery life. Overall it fulfilled both our needs and wants. And because it is a netbook, it fits inside most of my wife's purses. The keyboard has a decent feel if you are a touch typist and seems a bit larger than some netbook keyboards. The trackpad is the same black color and therefore blends in with the surrounding area, but is easy to detect because it is covered with very tiny "bumps". ASUS says that its' quick startup and long battery life is also because it uses Windows 7 Starter. The battery life is pretty right on when doing email and basic surfing the internet. Of course, if you are doing video or light weight gaming, it will fall off but will still surprise you. Remember it does not have a built-in CD or DVD drive. I purchased the ASUS external DVD Writer ASUS USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive SDRW-08D1S-U (Black). It works great...and does not have a power plug or "brick". Its' power comes straight from this netbook. It comes with a two headed USB plug that connects directly to the side-by-side USB ports on the ASUS Seashell. The two connections allow it enough power to function properly. One other thing to know is that this unit is black, GLOSS BLACK! NICE! But that means that you will see EVERY finger print and smudge. ASUS does include a small microfiber towel and it does get plenty of use. Customer Rating: Summary: Best netbook out there Comment: This ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE truly offers a 14 hour long battery charge. I was amazed that it took hours to loss charge instead of a few short hours. Most laptops only lasts a maximum of three hours and don't take long to have to be put to charge. This netbook also offers a performance shortcut profile that makes a difference. Windows 7 works wonderfully on this netbook. The start up takes seconds instead of minutes. Portability is truly a bliss to have and this netbook offers it magnificently. Customer Rating: Summary: I Love This Netbook! Comment: I had initial reservations about going from a full sized, full featured laptop to a net book. Since I've retired my computer needs have changed and I thought a net book could be a good fit for me now. I did much research and online shopping. My main requirement was battery life. I wanted something I could use unplugged for an entire day when necessary. I have been using laptops since they came out and have always been disappointed by having to plug them in after a couple of hours. After the initial charge the first day, I used the computer as I normally would and 15 hours later I plugged it in so I could go to bed. It was still at 10% power! It has performed likewise everyday for over a month, I unplug it in the morning and plug it in at bedtime. It only takes about three hours to charge. The computer is very well built and speaks quality in every way. The monitor is clear and bright. The keyboard is stated to be 92% regular size, but fits my hands better than my last laptop and I find it easier to use. The wi-fi is easy and fast to set up and picks up any network close by with no trouble. The 250G hard drive is larger than any I've had on previous laptops. I cannot think of anything negative to say at this point. It's all I want or need in a laptop at this time. After six laptops I've finally got one that's truly portable and can travel with me. I couldn't be happier. I LOVE It! p.s. Amazon had the very best price on the very latest model. Customer Rating: Summary: Three's a charm Comment: This is the third Asus netbook that I have bought. I had the first, a 904HA for a year. I did the memory upgrade to 2Gb at the time I got it. Only complaint at all was the backwards placement of the shift and pageup keys on the right edge of the keyboard. I bought a 1005HA for my wife at Christmas. After I saw that one I knew I wanted one with a 10-inch screen and a larger hard disk for me. After three weeks of usage I am very happy with the 1005PE-PU17. Going from XP to Windows 7 took a bit of adjusting for me but that is not a fault of the netbook... My only complaint with the 1005PE was the highly shiny screen that really bothered my eyes and made it difficult to read. I bought a generic 10-inch screen protector on eBay and that problem was cured. My 904HA went to my daughter, who is thrilled with it. More Reviews
