Summary: Does everything required of it
Comment: I've owned this netbook for more than half a year, and thus far am extremely satisfied with it.

I'm not much of a computer geek, so I won't try to get technical, but I'd like to note that while the 1201N performs some tasks very well and others at a snail-like rate, it fits in with my preferences and activities perfectly. I bought it for several purposes, and have not been disappointed in any of them:

1. To be lightweight enough to carry easily to school and work
2. Internet browsing
3. Word processing
4. Video-streaming (on Youtube, Netflix and Amazon's Video on Demand)
5. World of Warcraft

Although the computer is noticeably slower than my decently togged-out desktop at tasks such as virus scans or new software installation, this is not generally an issue as long as I confine my activities to the ones listed above. Internet surfing and word processing are of course not a problem, and videos play as seamlessly as they do on the desktop. I usually have several processes going at the same time, including Google Chrome (with video running) and multiple instances of Wordpad and/or OpenOffice Writer, with no appreciable dent in performance.

For fellow WoW gamers: World of Warcraft runs surprisingly well. I had expected to perhaps be able to check mail and auctions on this machine while unable to access my desktop, but I've had no problems solo-questing, either. Dalaran kills my frame rate during peak hours, but that holds true for many laptops and older desktops as well. I haven't tried raiding yet -- I'm used to playing with a ton of add-ons on the desktop but am using only the default UI on the netbook -- but I think 10-mans should be doable; 25-mans, doubtful. I use minimum settings, of course, with 1024x768 resolution in windowed mode (so I can easily tab in and out), and the game runs fine.

I don't know why the computer is so sluggish with tasks like software installation but brisk when it comes to gaming and videos, but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. *g*

The one big problem with the 1201N is, as numerous people have mentioned, the short battery life. It'll last for 4~5 hours if you don't over-exert it, but you can't push it much further than that. Since my classes last for 3 hours and I have opportunities to recharge before and after, that isn't an issue for me, but this probably isn't the computer you want to bring with you on long flights.

Summary: It's ok.
Comment: I was excited at first. Loaded everything I had on here, 1000 songs, 2000 pictures, etc. Was working ok at first, now having a few problems after 3 months. When it's not plugged in and I'm only listening to music it freezes when I try and come back to do something. Recognizing the cursor or hidden taskbar is slow sometimes, HD video online is slow, mouse has suddenly become ultra-sensitive. Sound through speakers or headphones is now crackling. I'll have to send it to Asus, which will be a huge hassle.

Otherwise, good for basic computer usage. About 4 hours battery life, screen is crystal clear, light to carry. Not expecting this one to last very long, probably overpriced for what it is.

Comment: For me this netbook it's all terrain... fast, small, full connective, decent battery life, the biggest screen in his class.

Summary: Powerful Netbook Handles Video Well But Runs Hot
Comment: When ASUS announced the 1202n model specs at the end of summer last year in 2009, I was eagerly anticipating its release. I new everything about the specs and when I went to Asia in November-December, I knew I had my chance to pick up this powerful netbook prior to release here in the states.

And I did, the first day it was released in Taipei, Taiwan I had it. My initial thoughts were how beautiful and nicely sized this netbook was. A 12 inch LCD screen with a full keyboard that has a chiclet style. The exterior is a smooth gloss plastic and it looked good.

I was a bit underwhelmed by the duo core n330 Intel processor but was pleased with the ION video chipset. It handled video well enough.

Over the course of time, here are the issues I've experienced with the unit. The PSU (power supply unit) is real small and it actually busted on me. I had to send it in for warranty; good thing ASUS has global warranty with technical centers in the United States. Nowadays, the unit appears to run hot. I hear the fans but it just isn't running as cool as I'd like. It even gets stuck and needs to reboot at times.

I'll probably have to send it in for another warranty fix if this keeps up but other then that, I love this little machine. It is a budget computer and it is a netbook. So it is what it is.

Love the HDMI to use on the television and the size of it. Other then that, I'm sure there are better models now. I believe I had the first 1201n in North America because I bought it in Asia and had it when I came back December 4th, 2009.

Summary: Good bang for your buck
Comment: I bought this netbook to use as my travel computer as I tend to do a lot of flying and I was tired of carrying around the heavier 15 & 17 inch laptops. So far, it been pretty good - the only real complaint I have is all the bloatware it comes loaded with. I ended up adding another 2 gigs of ram and installing Win 7 64bit and it runs pretty well now. 4 out of 5 stars for me having to take the extra time to get it working to its full potential.
